A Chronological Retrospective of the Last 50 Years of Summer Music
At a time when the world has never seemed more divided, I’m inclined to embrace the few elements of modern life that bring us all together, like unlikely animal friendships, the antics of Keanu Reeves, and the feeling that comes when a friend you didn’t really want to see anyway cancels the plans you felt forced into.
With many of my mixes I’m perfectly happy excluding some people in the interest of highlighting a certain musical niche, but summer music should strive to be inclusive. It should provide a cinematic soundtrack for parks and poolsides, boats and beaches. It should provide the perfect picks for picnics, a sultry score for sunburns.
While I took many liberties in the interest in creating a more cohesive mix, for the most part the music is arranged chronologically, allowing for the sensation of a gradual journey that starts a half century ago, then gradually takes you into our musical present one song at a time.
