The Cover Up - A Selection of Dreamy and Gentle Cover Songs

The Cover Up – A Selection of Dreamy and Gentle Cover Songs

Musicians covering each others work has been as longstanding a staple in music culture as substance abuse and misogyny. While the motivation to do so is often the child of an unholy marriage between lazy opportunism and musical sacrilege, in worthy hands it can be the most respectful of endeavors. With emphasis on the latter, this selection has me taking the most dreamy cover songs I know and creating an almost ambient soundscape of distilled nostalgia.

Pale Blue – Thirteen (Big Star)
Chromatics – Blue Moon (Richard Rogers)
Best Fern – Take On Me (A-Ha)
How To Dress Well – Clowne Town
Carla Dal Forno – Summertime Sadness
Gazelle Twin (The Wire)
Portishead – SOS (ABBA)
Aurora – Teardrop (Massive Attack)
Brian Eno – I’m Set Free
Moses Sumney – O Superman (Laurie Anderson)
Jon Hopkins and Hayden Thorpe – Goodbye Horses (Q Lazzarus)
Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith – By Your Side (Sade)
