In the wake of decades of a dance music artists quite literally faking the funk by cribbing the soul from more capable artists for use in otherwise cold and sterile sequencing, the soul of Soul Clap permeates the music in it’s entirely, so that even borrowed samples fit like a glove into the duo’s authentically wrought instrumentation. Mired in the undersung sound of the 1990s, the output owes as much to the sound of classic house and techno as it does to New Jack Swing.
